Night sessions at the Snowpark

In Avoriaz, freestyle comes alive at night too. Discover night sessions at La Chapelle Snowpark.

A night-time experience

Discover a one-of-a-kind setup in France at the fully floodlit La Chapelle Snowpark. A new way to experience freestyle and keep the riding fun going after dark.

A legacy of snowboard culture

A home for snowboarding from its earliest days, Avoriaz became the birthplace of France’s first permanent snowpark in 1993. Ever since, riders, shapers and boardshops have kept this surf- and skate-inspired culture alive, bringing together creativity, community and the joy of riding.

A freestyle destination

With four freestyle areas, Avoriaz has a playground for everyone. From La Chapelle and Arare to the Stash and Lil’Stash, there are endless opportunities to build your skills, try something new and express your style on skis or a snowboard.

Night session at Avoriaz Snowpark

Night falls over Avoriaz, but the boards haven’t been put away yet. At La Chapelle, the snowpark lights up and the session continues. On four Wednesdays in January and February, night sessions invite riders to keep the fun going under the floodlights. A special setup, unique in France, that brings Avoriaz’s freestyle culture to life after dark.

Four evenings to experience riding in a new light

With its Black Chapelle evenings, Avoriaz brings freestyle enthusiasts together on four Wednesdays in January and February. For the occasion, the entire La Chapelle Snowpark is floodlit, and its drag lift stays open until 7:15 pm. It’s a chance to extend your session and rediscover the park’s lines under the floodlights.

Above all, these night sessions bring Avoriaz’s riding community together. Locals, season workers, visiting riders and holidaymakers meet at La Chapelle to share runs, work on a trick or simply spend the evening together. Riders cross paths at the top, take inspiration from each other and find the encouragement to give it another go.

On the steps of La Chapelle, spectators are part of the session too. Friends catch up, watch the runs and cheer on the riders. This mix of styles, connections and energy creates the Black Chapelle atmosphere: one spot where, for an evening, a whole community comes together through a shared love of freestyle.

A great park starts with great shaping

What keeps riders coming back for another run starts with the terrain. A well-shaped take-off, a carefully prepared landing, features that flow together: the quality of the shaping makes all the difference. Behind every session at La Chapelle is the work of Avoriaz’s shapers and their attention to detail. It’s expertise you can feel under your skis or board.

Taking the sessions into the night brings a real technical challenge. Shaping and lighting need to work together so riders can clearly read the approaches, features and landings. For the Avoriaz Snowparks team, these evenings call for dedicated preparation, with the same commitment to quality as daytime sessions.

La Chapelle Snowpark

An iconic Avoriaz snowpark, La Chapelle is a must-visit spot for freestylers of all abilities. Located on the plateau right next to the resort, the park promises unforgettable sessions, whether you’re a beginner or an expert.

Designed for every skill level, the snowpark features sections and obstacles suited to beginners, intermediate and advanced riders. It’s the perfect place to warm up, practise and meet up. Four kicker lines of varying difficulty (XS, S, M and L) allow for steady progression, while two jib lines (S and L) feature boxes and rails.

Bonus: the Avoriaz Snowparks team has built a spacious wooden terrace where you can watch the riders, chat and enjoy La Chapelle Snowpark’s signature sunsets.

A snowboarding story still being written

Freestyle’s place in Avoriaz is rooted in a long history. From snowboarding’s earliest days, the resort welcomed enthusiasts of this new sport inspired by surfing and skateboarding. In 1993, France’s first permanent snowpark opened here.

A community grew around the park. Boardshops became meeting places, riders carved out their own lines, and footage filmed in the resort began to circulate. Figures such as Nico Droz helped put Avoriaz on the international snowboarding map.

This legacy lives on through the riders, shapers and everyone helping the sport evolve. The night sessions at La Chapelle are its latest expression, driven by the same desire to come together on the snow and keep the session going.
