Located at an altitude of 1,800 metres, in the heart of Avoriaz, Aquariaz is not an aquatic centre like any other. Already recognised for its unique mountain water world, it has now reached a major new milestone by being awarded the “Pool of Tomorrow” label.
This certification rewards aquatic facilities that take concrete action to reduce their environmental impact, optimise consumption and anticipate future regulations. In Avoriaz, the label confirms a long-standing reality: for several years, Aquariaz has been working to be a modern, responsible and sustainable swimming pool, without ever compromising on visitor enjoyment.
The “Pool of Tomorrow” label
The “Pool of Tomorrow” label recognises swimming pools and aquatic centres that take concrete action to reduce their environmental impact. It highlights facilities that focus on water management, energy performance and the optimisation of their installations, while guaranteeing comfort and quality of service.
Structured around several levels of commitment, the label makes it possible to assess the actions implemented and the progress achieved. Aquariaz has been awarded Level 3, recognising an advanced approach and concrete measures already deployed for responsible water and energy management, in line with the challenges facing the swimming pools of tomorrow.
Commitments translated into concrete actions
Every drop counts: exemplary water management
Operating an aquatic centre involves strict regulatory constraints. Every day, Aquariaz must discharge approximately 25 m³ of clean, warm water. Since 2022, this water has no longer been considered a loss, but a resource.
Several systems have been implemented:
- recovery of heat from discharged water,
- storage and reuse of this water for filter cleaning,
- recovery and reuse of nearly 80 m³ of greywater,
- use of 24 m³ of rainwater for mountain bike washing, the summer slip-and-slide attraction, and the watering of tropical plants.
Concrete result: since 2024, more than 1,000 m³ of water have been reused, significantly reducing the site’s overall water consumption.
New advancement: heat recovery from the air
Aquariaz’s commitment does not stop at water management. A new milestone has recently been reached with the installation of a TERRAO system, enabling fresh air to be preheated using the air extracted from the pools.
This innovative technology reduces the building’s thermal energy consumption while maintaining optimal comfort for visitors. An action that may be barely visible to the naked eye, but which is essential to improving the centre’s overall energy performance.
Our actions may not be spectacular for visitors, but they make all the difference to the building’s consumption. Aquariaz must remain a place of enjoyment, but responsible enjoyment.
Avoriaz, already ahead of upcoming regulations
Public swimming pools are now subject to the Eco Energy Tertiary scheme, which sets ambitious targets for reducing energy consumption:
- 40% by 2030
- 50% by 2040
- 60% by 2050
While many facilities still need to adapt, Avoriaz has chosen to take the lead. For several years, Aquariaz has been implementing concrete solutions: heat recovery from water and air, reuse of greywater, and rainwater harvesting. All of these actions help reduce the environmental footprint while maintaining a high-quality bathing experience.
