Avoriaz, a snow-bubble in a preserved environment
A unique resort the whole world over
Created in 1966, Avoriaz has remained a unique concept: a pedestrian resort right from the outset.
Today this concept proves very popular with holiday makers in search of a break from their daily life-style: holidays are first and foremost about quality time spent as a family: in order to live them to the full it is important to have a complete escape from the constraints of daily life: urban traffic, public transport, traffic jams, pollution…
Eco construction: 40 years ago Avoriaz was already acting as a pioneer with the design of its apartment blocks: insulation on exterior surfaces, insulating snow-bars, and specially designed balconies that prevent the cold permeating through to the inside.
The environment: a first-class criterion when choosing a holiday destination
In 2008 the resort still remains faithful to its holiday-makers’ environmental concerns:
> a landscape free from pollution, snow that stays white, neither polluted by exhausts nor degraded by misplaced salt-spreading.
>pure and invigorating mountain air, far from the exhaust fumes of ‘town-resorts’.
> a complete change of scene assured by clean transport: horse-drawn sleighs portray a romantic mountain image. 28 sleighs and about a hundred horses mean that visitors can forget all about their cars, left in one of the 2500 parking places for a whole week!
> in Avoriaz events and entertainment assume the grandiose character of this natural and preserved amphitheatre: - the Mushers Village during the Grande Odyssée, Christmas in the land of Avoriaz and the Snow Carnival have all forged a firm reputation for the resort as far as major events are concerned.
> not forgetting a weighty argument for parents: their children’s safety, as the absence of cars gives children the freedom to come and go in total security, all day long: in the morning they can fetch the bread on foot, then ski off alone and come back to play in the snow or go sledging late into the night on the floodlit Droments slope in the resort centre.
