On the 19th January 2007
Avoriaz hosted the first international «Winter-sports
resorts for a better world» forum. The aim was to bring
together top international mountain environment specialists
for a day’s forum to nurture stimulating reflexions
about the future of ecological mountain resorts.
Destined
for all those playing a part in mountain life (professionals
running resorts, tourist companies, communities, etc.), this
first meeting consisted of the painting an overall picture
of what exactly was at stake for mountain resorts involved
in sustainable development, the drawing up a report of present
actions, and the sharing of approved methods among some of
the most committed actors on this mountain stage, including
OCDE, and representatives from American, Canadian and Austrian
resorts…
Flushed with the success of this first conference
which united numerous mountain professionals from all over
Europe, Avoriaz and Pierre & Vacances wish to repeat
and enrich the event, under the auspices of the World Tourist
Organization. Having laid the first thought-provoking stones,
they are now launching a three-pronged attack based on experience
cross-fertilization, learning from the most appropriate methods
and the circulation of concrete solutions that could be organized
for each of tomorrow’s economic issues.
This second
Forum will take place over two days, the 17th and 18th January
2008 in Avoriaz.
The enriching of the contents of these reunions
will take place notably by the parallel organization of workshops/conferences
and exhibitions of innovative products and equipment that
hold solutions for issues linked to environmental protection.
These meetings will provide the opportunity for the most
advanced companies in this field to exhibit top-of-the-range
equipment as far as environmental performance is concerned
for snow-clearing and winter maintenance of ski slopes, landscaping
and maintenance of mountain terrain, renewable energy sources,
water and rubbish management in the mountains, etc.
